The HI 99171N portable leather and paper pH meter has automatic calibration, on-screen tutorial messages, Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC), a battery error prevention system, and a multi-level LCD screen. Calibration is automatic at one or two points with two sets of memorized buffers (Standard 4.01, 7.01, 10.01 or NIST 4.01, 6.86, 9.18), and calibration sachets are included. On-screen tutorial help aids in calibration and setup. ATC eliminates the need for extra calculations, and a built-in temperature probe measures pH and temperature simultaneously. The flat tip probe is specifically designed for direct pH measurement on paper and leather, and helps optimize surface contact with the sample. The meter has a battery error protection system to help prevent false readings, and a multi-level LCD screen with 3/8 black digits for readability. The meter is waterproof, and used for pH measurements of leather and paper, such as food industry packaging.

pH range is -2.00 to 16.00 (+ or - 0.02pH), with a resolution of 0.01pH. Temperature range is -5.0 to 105.0 degrees C (23.0 to 221.0 degrees F), + or - 0.5 degrees C (up to 60 degrees C) and 1.0 degrees C (outside); + or - 1.0 degrees F (up to 140 degrees F) and 2.0 degrees F (outside) with a resolution of 0.1 degrees C (0.1 degrees F). Dimensions are 150 x 80 x 36 mm/5.9 x 3.1 x 1.4 inches (H x W x D), and it weighs 210 g (7.4 oz.). (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The device operates on three 1.5V AA batteries (included) and turns off automatically after eight minutes of non-use.
